That FF14 character with a gun is not an example of “it’s funny when a character in a fantasy setting has a gun”. Guns just exist in the setting, technological progress has just reached that far.
Balthier shows up in FF12 with a gun, but it’s not funny because guns are so unremarkable that nobody comments on it.
It’s only funny when guns otherwise don’t exist. Or when it’s like Homura PMMM, who chooses to fight with real guns stolen from the military, instead of her actual assigned magical girl weapons.
Mami uses guns too, but she’s not as funny because it’s her magical girl weapon. Homura shows up to the final boss with stolen rocket launchers. Now that’s funny.
This is why shadow the hedgehog is funny.
Everyone else has cartoon logic guns, fancy laser blasters and shadow is a funny animal with a wholeass pistol and stock gunshot sounds.
